Impressions: Antje Stiebitz
During their stay in India or Germany our Media Ambassadors gain experiences and gather impressions, often related to a particular place or person. Today, we want to share the memories of Antje Stiebitz:
"This time in India my focus was directed on rural India. Everything started with a lecture of Palagummi Sainath at the Asian College of Journalism. His intense speech on deprivation in myriad Indian villages was impressive. Some weeks later, during the festival of Diwali, my host family, Arfa Khanum Sherwani and Azim Sherwani, brought me to a small village nearby the Nepalese border, named Jagdishpur Sokha. I immediately fell in love with the place. In this short visit, I had a chance to get acquainted with the day-to-day affairs in this small village - which included, among other things, observing school life at the "School of Global Learning" where children get taught the official curriculum during the day and learning at the Madrassa how to read the Holy Quran in the late afternoon.
After returning to Delhi, I revisited Jagdishpur Sokha, along with Lucknow and Bahraich. This trip would have not been possible without the guidance of my hosts in Delhi (and also an Alumna of the program Arfa Khanum Sherwani). Meeting the people of Bahraich, the honest conversations with them is something I probably will never forget.
I am also sharing the three other important photos that according to me sum up my India trip.
