Tübingen / Hamburg 20.10.2016

The International Media Center (IMC) at the University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg (HAW Hamburg) shall soon enter into a cooperation agreement with the Center for Media Competence at the University of Tübingen. This cooperation aims at developing and researching a variety of topics in the fields of international Media and Media-cultures by creating a network of International Media Centers around the world. Some of the existing cooperation partners of the IMC include the Tsinghua University in Beijing, the Northwestern University in Chicago and the State University of St. Petersburg. The University of Tübingen is the first major cooperation partner of the IMC within Germany.

When asked about the plan to develop a network of International Media Centers, Prof. Dr. Steffen Burkhardt, director of the IMC, said, „Our work with the Center for Media Competence at the University of Tübingen will enhance and complement the research activities already being undertaken at the IMC Hamburg. We look forward to working together with excellent and renowned colleagues at the Center for Media Competence and also towards expanding the network of the IMC“.

Prof. Dr. Susanne Marschall, director of the Center for Media Competence and an expert on Media Culture, while defining the goals of the cooperation, said “Together with the colleagues in Hamburg, we would be developing a North-South axis. Based on the strengths of both partners, we would be working on a series of research and transfer projects. We are also looking at strengthening the IMC Network through such projects.“

In order to strengthen the cooperation, one of the major programs developed by the IMC Hamburg „Media Ambassadors India – Germany“ will now move from the Elbe to the Neckar. The current program head, Pradnya Bivalkar who has been in charge of this exchange program since the beginning of 2015, will continue her association with the project in Tübingen.
