Zentrum für Medienkompetenz - Center for Media Competence

The Center for Media Competence (CMC or Zentrum für Medienkompetenz) is a centrally administered institution of the University of Tübingen and works closely with the Institute of Media Studies at the University. The CMC is headed by Prof. Dr. Susanne Marschall, who also holds the Chair for Audio-Visual Media, Film and TV Studies.

The CMC and the Institute of Media Studies offer a series of courses together that focus on the worldwide phenomenon of a constantly changing media landscape. They respond to the increased and politicised presence of the media in public and private spheres with an integrative goal. The courses offered are designed to strengthen professional competencies while simultaneously imparting important vocational skills. The CMC and the Institute associate itself proudly with established media professionals who teach here regularly. During their time here, students have a chance to not only learn the finer aspects of film production but also produce commercially viable films and media applications while supporting research and teaching at the CMC.

Additionally the CMC is an active member of the HD Campus TV - High Definition television for the state of Baden-Württemberg, funded by the States’ Media Broadcasting Authority. Another important partner of the CMC is the Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württtemberg (MFG) which regularly supports the FestivalTV during the biggest French Film Festival in Germany, annually taking place in Tübingen and Stuttgart. The CMC is also the broadcasting base of Radio Micro Europa in Germany, a network of radio stations funded by the EU at about ten universities all across Europe. The CMC, along with the Institute of Media Studies is committed to supporting a free and independent media. In order to strengthen this position, it intends to become a part of a worldwide network of International Media Centers, currently developed by the International Media Center at the HAW Hamburg
