Impressions by Petra Sorge

In 2016, I was a Media Ambassador of the Bosch Foundation program and a visiting journalist with "The Indian Express" in Delhi. I researched on the booming Indian crowdworking IT industry for German media, published stories in the "Sunday Express", and wrote editorials for the newspaper. My highlight was certainly the invitation to the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards, which are hosted by the Indian Express each year. At this year's ceremony, editor-in-chief Raj Kamal Jha challenged Narendra Modi on the stage and said: "Criticism from a government is wonderful news for journalism." A truly courageous and unique moment. At the end of my stay, Raj gave me a German edition of his world-class book "Fireproof" on the massacres of Muslims in the Indian state of Gujarat. Raj certainly had a message.
