German fellows have arrived in Chennai


Eight German journalists from various media houses have arrived in Chennai as fellows of the Media Ambassadors India – Germany Program for the year 2016. 
The academic program at the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai has specially been designed taking into consideration various areas of interest of the German fellows. As a part of the academic course, a lecture series is being held for the fellows at the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai dealing with a variety of topics like freedom of speech and expression and the legal framework, caste system and its repercussions, religion and secularism in India, developmental issues. During an excursion to the temple city of Madurai, the fellows had a chance to interact with Mr. Henri Tiphagne who won the Amnesty International Germany Human Rights Award in 2016. He shared some insights about the state of Human Rights across various states in India. 
In addition to this, the German fellows also had a chance to travel to Mumbai and New Delhi where they met up with a series of thinktanks like the Gateway House, the Observer Research Foundation. They also had a chance to interact with some politicians like Mr. Prakash Javadekar, Mr. Vijay Chauthaiwale and a few other Bureaucrats while in New Delhi. Particularly interesting was an interaction with Josy Joseph, an investigative journalist and author of the bestseller "
A Feast of Vultures: The Hidden Business of Democracy in India".
